Worship

At the heart of community life at Wembley Downs UC is our worship which seeks to express the `worthship` of God in our day and generation. Worship services vary in style from week to week, drawing on the gifts and experiences of young and old in music, visuals, word and prayer. We use contemporary wisdom from various sources, both secular and sacred, as well as that from scriptures, and from the issues of our modern world. We take our tradition and scriptures, handed down over the centuries, seriously but not literally, and see that being fully human in the 21st century requires an open heart and mind.

Above all we believe in being an inclusive, open and welcoming place to explore, question and doubt, and that faith does not mean separating ourselves from the natural world or the marvels of science. It means finding the divine in all things and all people, embracing the gift of life we have been given and taking up the call to be the life to others.

Children are especially welcome and worship services usually include a children`s time and activity. There is also someone rostered on for nurture group, which as the name suggests supports and encourages our younger members, and there is a creche should a parent wish to have their infant cared for in the adjoining room. (All helpers involved with children or youth have a Working with Children card.)

WORSHIP SERVICES are held in our multi-purpose building

  • The normal time for all services is 9.30 am

  • The Fourth Sunday is a shared liturgy and is more mediative in nature. Communion is also shared on this day.

  • Second Sunday services are followed by sharing time and a sausage sizzle.

  • On 5th Sundays, we share a combined service with Wembley Downs Church of Christ at 9.30am, the venue being each of the two church buildings alternately. This is currently in recess until Covid restrictions cease.
